The growth rate index of large scale structure in the universe takes distinctive values or
functions for distinct gravity theories. This can be used in order to probe the origin of cosmic
acceleration from ongoing and future astronomical data. I will present some recent results on
the parameterization of the growth rate index where spatial curvature and redshift dependencies
are taken into account. Some constraints from current and future growth data will be
presented as well.
