Jets and Accretion in Microquasars and in AGN
Sera Markoff, MIT
abstract
bio
Sera Markoff is currently an NSF A&A Postdoctoral fellow at MIT. After receiving
her PhD in 2000 from the University of Arizona, she was a Humboldt Research Fellow at the
Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn and will next be joining the faculty of the
University of Amsterdam in January 2006. Her recent research focuses on understanding the
physics of jet outflows from black holes across their range of masses in particular how they
form and their relationship to the accretion flow. She is involved with multi-wavelength
observations as well as theoretical modeling. Other interests include high energy astrophysics
such as cosmic-ray acceleration the production of particle cascades via collisions and their
subsequent radiative signatures.
