Academic Integrity
The University of Texas and the College of Natural Sciences have strong codes of ethics regarding scholastic honesty and dishonesty. You are responsible for knowing these standards for academic work at UT. See

http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/sjs/academicintegrity.html

helix nebula In a writing class, you need to be particularly aware of the boundaries for legitimate use of your sources, whether print media (books and articles) or websites. Be sure that you understand what is considered to be plagiarism: representing as your own work any material that was in fact created by someone else. We will take time in this class to discuss the proper ways to cite other people's work and to ensure that you have not committed plagiarism, and you will be responsible for following this protocol.

Instructor Expectations for the Classroom
I want the class period to be a time for learning and thinking. Therefore, I expect you to attend class regularly, to arrive on time, and to pay attention to whoever is speaking to the class as a group (the instructor, TA, or another student). Please turn off your cell phones during class. As it happens, there will sometimes be a class or seminar in this room immediately before our class, particularly on Wednesdays: Wed. 12-1 is the regular meeting time of a graduate seminar on Stellar Astronomy. Please be patient and wait quietly in the hall or Lounge until the seminar is over, and we will get started as quickly as possible. (Perhaps you might try sitting in on one of these seminars!)

Students with Disabilities
Upon request, the University of Texas at Austin provides appropriate academic adjustments for qualified students with disabilities. Contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 471-6259 for more information.
