First Stars and Galaxies: Challenges in the Next Decade

Conference Venue

First Stars and Galaxies will be held at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin, TX. We have reserved 80 hotel rooms at the Center at the rate of $129 (single occupancy) or $159 (double occupancy). This rate is available for the nights of Sunday March 7th through Thursday March 11th, but you must make your reservation by February 1, 2010 to obtain it. Due to its popularity, if you want to stay for part of the yearly South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) (March 12 - 21), we urge you to book a hotel room for the additional evenings well in advance, by November at the very latest. This can be done on the SXSW website. If you wish to share a room to save costs, or would like assistance finding a hotel room for SXSW, please contact Daniel Whalen.

Please note that the conference starts on Monday morning. There will be a wine and cheese reception on Monday evening at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, a barbecue dinner on Tuesday evening, and a conference banquet on Wednesday evening. We advise that you make the hotel reservation as early as possible, at least six weeks in advance. Information on shuttle and taxi service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (airport code AUS) and the Center can be found here.

There are two ways to book a hotel room at the AT&T Conference Center:

  • Use the AT&T Center online registration. For 'group or promotional code', use 'FIRSTS0310'

  • Call the AT&T Conference Center reservation hotline at 1-888-285-8049. State that you are with the 'First Stars and Galaxies' conference.

Please note that the Center has free wireless internet access in both the hotel rooms and in the conference areas. Also, all university fitness facilities, including swimming pools and weight rooms, will be accessible to conference participants for a small daily fee.
