Title: First 3D Simulations of Thermonuclear Supernovae of Very Massive Stars

Author(s): Ken Chen

Abstract: Our current understanding of the formation of the first stars in the universe implies that they were very massive, having a typical mass scale of hundred times the mass of the Sun and exploding as pair instability supernovae. Whereas multi-dimensional simulations of most types of supernovae have been extensively done, few such simulations exist for pair instability supernovae (PISN). We present the first 3D simulations of PISN with the goal of understanding the energetics, hydrodynamic instabilities, and nucleosynthesis of these supernovae.
