Title: Dark Matter and the First Stars (Dark Stars)

Author(s): Fabio Iocco

Abstract: I will illustrate the physical mechanisms by means of which WIMP dark matter may influence the birth and life of the first stars in the Universe: annihilations releasing energy by means of a "density boost" provided by gravitational contraction in the stages of star formation, and by a weak-interaction driven capture inside an already formed celestial object later on. These objects (also known as "Dark Stars") have been topic of an intense research activity in the last years: I will also summarize the state of the art of the field (as well as underline open questions and critical issues) and comment on future detection possibilities and feasible strategies.
