With a BS in physics and a Ph.D. in Astronomy (from University of Virginia), my work moved into Astronomy Education in the 1980s. I am a Senior Lecturer and Research Associate in the Astronomy Department, and work with McDonald Observatory's Visitor Center. Creating materials and programs for grade K-12 teachers and their students requires that I maintain a broad interest in many areas of astronomy. For example, in 2008 I designed and co-facilitated two workshops for secondary school teachers on planetary formation (including activities on extra-solar planets) and in summer 2009 we will add a workshop on comets. |
