McDonald Observatory/Department of Astronomy

I am a Sr. Research Scientist and Assistant Director of McDonald Observatory. I obtained my AB in Physics from Cornell University and came to graduate school in Astronomy at UT in 1976. I received my MS (1979) and PhD (1982) and stayed on, working my way up. My research concentrates on primitive bodies in the Solar System, primarily comets. I study them with both low- and high-resolution spectroscopy. I have been involved with NASA's CRAF mission (never flown), CoNTOUR (blew up 6 weeks after launch) and am currently working on 2 different Comet Discovery missions, 1 as the PI.
