"A Spitzer Space Telescope view of star formation
in the Milky Way"

Thomas Robitaille, Harvard Center for Astrophysics

"In this talk I will present recent results relating to star formation in the Milky-Way from the Spitzer Space Telescope GLIMPSE and MIPSGAL surveys. I will discuss a census of thousands of young stellar objects in the Galactic plane that we have carried out, and work done on a population synthesis model aimed at determining the present rate of star-formation in the Galaxy. In parallel, I will discuss the work we have carried out to interpret the spectral energy distributions of these thousands of young stars, and will describe recent work carried out to compute a new set of models that will better meet the challenges of modeling recent and future datasets, such as the UKIDSS, Bolocam, and Herschel Galactic plane surveys."
