The following activities, if properly documented, are considered valid for participation credit (in place of, for example, index cards).
Star Parties
Attend one of the Astronomy Department-sponsored Star Parties, which occur on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
evenings during the semester, weather permitting. The Wednesday night events are held on the roof of RLM Hall,
while the Friday and Saturday ones use the telescope on the roof of Painter Hall. See details
here. Important:
In order to receive credit for this activity, you must request a signed slip from the person in charge, and turn
it in to the T.A. within the next week. No more than two Star
Parties can count for participation credit.
Special Lecture by Prof. Steven Weinberg, Wed. Sep. 29
7:00 pm, RLM 4.102 (ground floor auditorium)

There will be a public lecture by one of the university's most
celebrated professors, Dr. Steven Weinberg of the Physics
Department, on Wed. Sep. 29. The lecture will begin at
7:00 PM and will be followed by a Star Party from the roof of RLM
(weather permitting). There will be free refreshments (while
supplies last), including sandwiches from Subway and
liquid nitrogen ice cream. To receive participation credit for
this event, you need to either attend the Star Party and obtain
a signed slip, or submit a brief summary of the content of
Prof. Weinberg's lecture, in hard copy form, no later than
Tues. Oct. 4 in class. You can receive only one point of
participation credit for the evening (lecture or star party).
