COVID-19 Protocols and Policy from the Aspen Center for Physics (UPDATED)

We look forward to welcoming you to Aspen for our winter conference.

Please read this section carefully as it describes measures the Center is putting in place to ensure the safety of conference participants and staff. If at any time after arrival in Aspen, a participant or a member of their travel group starts to exhibit COVID-like symptoms, the participant should notify the Center, not come to the campus, take an antigen test or a PCR test, and only return to the Center after a negative test. The Center has a limited number of tests for this purpose that can be arranged for your use by calling 970-925-2585 or emailing acp@aspenphys.org. You may also schedule a COVID test at the testing sites listed at this link:
https://covid19.pitkincounty.com/testing-location/aspen/

We are instituting the following protocols for those attending:

  1. 1. In addition to being fully vaccinated, COVID-19 booster shots are required for all participants who are eligible to have received them by the start of the conference. If you are ineligible or unable to get a booster shot, please email acp@aspenphys.org with a brief explanation.
  2. 2. All participants are required to take a COVID-19 test within the 72 hour window prior to first arrival at the Center. You may take an antigen or PCR test. If your test comes back positive, please do not travel to Aspen and immediately contact the Center at acp@aspenphys.org.
  3. 3. Upon their first arrival at the Center, all participants will need to show their vaccination card or a photo of their vaccination card and a form of identification in order to sign in for the conference.
  4. 4. Participants will be required to wear a quality mask at all times while in Flug Forum. There will be masks available for your use at the Smart Hall front desk. 5. We have installed high-capacity, small-particulate air filters in the auditorium to ensure sufficient air flow during the talks. The auditorium is large enough to allow reasonable distancing with the expected number of participants.
  5. 6. If a participant's family member or a non-scientist member of their travel group would like to visit the Center, they must check in at the front desk with their vaccination card and a form of identification and follow the above protocols.
In accordance with Pitkin County public health mandates, masks are required on all buses. We encourage all participants to exercise caution when not on-site at the Center.

While the Center is taking these measures to minimize risk, we will be relying on participants and their travel groups to behave responsibly. As such, the Center cannot guarantee the safety of participants, and they should understand that they are assuming risk by attending. Participants who repeatedly or egregiously violate the Center’s safety protocols will be asked to leave and will not receive a refund.
