"Are There Very Massive (Maybe Pop-III) Stars Around a GRB Progenitor?"

Long Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are produced by relativistic jets probably launched from very massive stars. Most massive stars form in dense star clusters and/or in binaries, which produce a very dense soft photon eld around the GRB progenitor. Inverse-Compton scattering of the soft photons by the hot electrons in the GRB jet leads to significant high energy gamma-ray emission in the 10-100GeV band. Observations can put strong constraints on the soft photon field and hence the surrounding massive stars. Our constraints are especially interesting for Pop-III stars, due the expected high luminosity.
