"Detailed Analysis of DIGIT Embedded Protostars"
The Herschel Key program, "Dust, Ice, and Gas In Time (DIGIT, PI: Neal Evans)" carried out the observations of 30 embedded low mass protostars, covering wide ranges of bolometric luminosity and temperature, with PACS aboard the Herschel Space Observatory.
Rich FIR molecular and atomic transitions have been detected toward the embedded protostars. Although interesting features have been isolated in specific individual sources, common features have been found; in rotation diagrams, CO has two temperature components (~300 K and ~1000 K) and the J=1/2 ladder of OH is more populated than the J=3/2 ladder. In this talk, some interesting observational results of individual sources will be presented, but mostly, we will focus on the detailed analyses with excitation diagrams, non-LTE LVG model, and the full 2-D line and continuum radiative transfer calculations to understand the heating mechanisms of these embedded sources.
