View of the HET enclosure from
the CCAS Tower: From atop the CCAS
tower the entire facility can be seen. Inside the ring wall,
the cylindrical pier on which the telescope rotates can be observed.
This pier is topped with concrete topping, flat to better than
.050 inch. The telescope rotates on eight 36-inch diameter air
bearings during azimuth positioning. The mounting bolts for the
pintle bearing can be observed in the center. Bogey assemblies
for the dome drive can be seen atop the wall. |
