Selected Viewgraphs and Meeting Minutes

Some of the presentations from the EXES Teachers' Program Meetings will be placed here on the web for future reference. Any additional talks given by EXES members will also be included, as applicable. The availability will depend mostly on the format of the presentation and the ease of conversion to html documents. Right now, we understand how to easily make PowerPoint presentation into PDF format suitable for displaying on the web. There is a catch, though: you need to have Acrobat Reader for ".pdf" files. You can download a free copy from Adobe Systems. Please follow the installation instructions on that page. In you browser, set the "helper application" for the extension .pdf (portable display format) to "Acrobat Reader."

Zemax is an optical raytracing program. The price for the standard Zemax package is $900. I contacted them and there was no educational discount available. They did suggest trying the demo version and seeing if that was enough.
Another, less expensive, raytracing program comes from Stellar Software. We haven't used it, but they have a version for $89 directed at classrooms and teachers.

We are also trying to place copies of the minutes from our monthly meetings on the web. Our meetings typically consist of "What I did last month" type reports. These will mostly be simple text files and filled with shorthand and abbreviations. Hopefully, over time, you will be able to read them as easily as we are four months after the fact. To help us all, there is an evolving glossary of acronyms, terms, and people.
