The Department of Astronomy at UT Austin
is one of the top 10 astronomy research
programs in the United States. Our faculty members are among the
worldwide leaders in cosmology, galaxies, stars, the interstellar
medium, planets, the solar system, and instrumentation. Students
in the Undergraduate program at UT
have the
rare opportunity to take classes from, and conduct research with, some
of the world's top astronomers.
The selective Astronomy Freshman Prize for Excellence (AFPE)
of $1,000 is awarded yearly to the best freshman admitted to the
first year of the UT Astronomy program. Only those who selected
Astronomy as a potential major on their UT application form are
eligible. To apply, please download and fill the application form in any of the
formats below.
- Text ( txt )
- Microsoft Word ( doc )

Email or mail the filled application back by Apr 10, 2008 to the address specified on the form. We will accept applications as of
Oct 2007, and encourage you to apply early rather than wait until April 10. The winner will be selected from the pool of students who apply for
the prize and who are admitted to UT by the Admissions Office. The winner will
be notified in April.
